Dear Editor,
The dust has settled and the final whistle has been blown bringing an end to the Digicel’s Football Competition for this year. A new champion has been crowned and now has bragging rights for the next year as the school that copped two championships in one year. Congratulations to Chases’ Academic Foundation, more so their star player Job Caesar for delivering the painstaking goal that sent the team from the mining town packing.
Last year’s south zone’s initial winners Sir Leon Lessons delivered a dreadful carnage on Dolphin Secondary to claim the title. This victory was short lived as Dolphin Secondary protested and was eventually crowned the winners of the zone.
Digicel first rule clearly indicates the specific day, month and year of which a player can be for entry into the competition. Further, rule five states ‘schools found violating rule one will be disqualified from the competition and shall be debarred from the competition for two years…’ I am quite certain that the officials at Digicel were aware of this fiasco from last year. Despite this situation a certain school was invited and allowed to participate in this year’s competition. I congratulate the players of a certain school for meeting so close to the finals and had the taste of victory in their mouths only to have to spit it out and settle for third. I am therefore left to believe that the officials at Digicel forgot the rule which they created, probably for their own personal reasons. I hope the coordinator of this event can indicate why the rules were not enforced barring a certain school from entering this year’s competition?
