Top Berbice First Division team, the Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets First Division team on Monday last received 25 coloured uniforms from the team’s official sponsor, Gizmos and Gadgets. The electrical giants of Wellington
Street, Georgetown handed over the uniforms valued at $200,000 to Secretary/CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, MS Hilbert Foster during a simple presentation ceremony at its main office.
Foster disclosed that the company has been sponsoring the first division team since January 2010 when it replaced the West Indies Sports Bar as the official sponsor. The team under the sponsorship has won several major Berbice tournaments including Tenelec 50 overs in 2012 and 2015, Ramcharitar Construction 40 overs in 2011, Berbice River bridge 50 overs – 2015, ABS 40 overs in 2010, Universal DVD 20/20 in 2011 and Busta Champion of Champions in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015.
The team has also successfully completed a total of 417 self-development programmes under the sub-headings of sports, charity, youth development, coaching, anti-crime, anti-drugs, anti-suicide, education, community development, Jobs for youths, economic development among others. Among the programmes undertaken are the Annual Awards Ceremony, Annual Cricket Academy, Republic Bank Grade 6 Summer Camp, Tribute to Outstanding Teachers, Tribute to Retired Teachers, Ansa Mcal Award of Excellence, Gregory Gaskin Memorial Sports Award, Beharry’s Say No and Yes Campaign, GUYOIL Traffic Education Campaign, Berbice Christmas Village and distribution of schoolbags to less fortunate students.
Foster, who also serves as Cricket Manager of the team, disclosed that the 2016 Berbice Cricket season would soon start with the Tenelec INC 50 overs tournament as such the uniforms was most welcomed.
The team in 2016 would be led by long standing Captain Shawn Perriera with Clinton Pestano as his deputy. Perriera is a former Guyana junior captain at the under 15, under 17 and under 19 levels, while Pestano also represented Guyana at the junior level and is a contracted player with the Guyana Cricket Board.
The team which won the last three first division titles in Berbice would also have players like Test player Assad Fudadin, ODI player Royston Crandon, Eon Hooper, Collis Butts, Jason Sinclair, Rajiv Ivan, Troy Matheson, Delbert Hicks, Khemraj Mahadeo, Shemaine Campbelle, Keon Sinclair, Kevin Sinclair, Kevlon Anderson, Erva Giddings, Junior Sinclair, Chanderpaul Govindan, Vidal Crandon and Slyus Tyndall.
Foster expressed gratitude to the Management of Gizmos and Gadgets for their continued investment in the team especially CEO Ravi Mangar, Bonita Bissessar, Earl Gomes and Malicia Gomes. He reassured the company that the RHTGG team would continue to uphold the high standard it has set itself in the past. The RHTGG, Foster stated would continue to represent the Gizmos and Gadgets brand with pride, passion and a high level of discipline.
Marketing Manager Earl Gomes in handing over the twenty-five pairs of uniforms stated that his company was proud to be associated with Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation and congratulated the RHTGG for representing the company’s brand at the highest possible level. He also expressed congratulations to the RHTY&SC, MS for its wide range of activities that are making a positive difference in the lives of youths, the elderly and less fortunate.
