Mother among two remanded for cocaine found in suitcase of boy, 15
Cora Towler and Ian Griffith, both of East La Penitence, Georgetown, were remanded to prison after over two pounds of cocaine were discovered in the handle of a suitcase carried by a juvenile, who was about to broad 
a flight destined for the United States via the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).
Towler, 41, the mother of the boy and Griffith, 40, denied the allegation that on August 27, at the CJIA, they had 1.004 kilograms of cocaine in their possession for the purpose of trafficking.
They were charged separately after they appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
According to reports, the 15-year-old was apprehended at the airport moments before he was scheduled to board a flight destined for JFK, New York. It was reported that narcotic ranks stationed at the airport unearthed the illicit drug after inspecting the luggage.
A number of persons were reportedly taken into custody after the discovery. It is alleged that the mother of the juvenile admitted that she had hidden the cocaine in the child’s luggage. Griffith was reported to have been taken into custody after it was revealed that he had supplied the woman with cocaine.
Attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat represented Towler while Griffith was represented by attorney Peter Hugh. During a bail application, Fung-A-Fat told the court that his client and Griffith packed the suitcase together which was borrowed from someone else. According to the lawyer, his client assisted police with information which led to the arrest of Griffith.
Attorney Hugh said that the cocaine was found concealed in the handle of the suitcase.
Police Prosecutor Shevon Jupiter opposed bail for the duo. The prosecutor indicated that investigations are still ongoing in the matter.
They will make their next court appearance on September 13.
