Dear Editor,
Almost every passing day, you bring us some new Brer Anancy stories that vividly bring back memories of school days. The trickster Anancy, originally a West African spider-god, lives in the news we read each day as the Ministers in the hierarchy seem to be enhancing their expertise by developing Brer Anancy mentality each time something goes wrong and they are caught ‘with their pants down’. What a joy to read the justifications for immoral and unethical acts bordering on illegality! But as a people, we are paying a heavy price for electing our own people who promise us the heavens but only are willing to deliver hell-fire, making us rot and look like washed up material as time passes.
As I have mentioned before (though KN never published some letters), every new government of Guyana replicates the performance of its predecessor, copying the wrongs they committed, perfecting the flaws and accelerating them. The present government is no different but as a people we expect better performance from President Granger for he is a bright guy who seems only interested in pontificating on issues rather than making critical decisions which will give Guyanese the good life they should enjoy.
Ministers, those in past government, came to office looking famished and malnourished, not mentioning what they wear and drive. With a donkey cart economy, the past government soon after the deaths of Dr. Jagan and his wife transformed the government into Prado boys, Rav 4 boys, etc. They all became bulky and for you to recognize an individual you had to subtract their girth to really recognize them. We are now witnessing an improved and more advanced replay curried with Anancy antics.
Come 2020, if we can awake from our 50-year stupor, APNU-AFC will learn a hard lesson. Therefore, I implore Glen Lall, Kaieteur News and staff to keep up the excellent investigative journalism, give us more Anancy stories to educate our perceptions of governmental actions so that we can make better choice next time. You are doing for Guyana what the churches and civic society did to restore democratic elections in 1992, working in collaboration with our international friends, ABC countries, EU, etc. Sad to say, our churches and civic groups have hibernated rapidly since then.
Kaieteur News played a very meaningful role in exposing the excesses in the past, ensuring the election of the current administration. You have suffered much in the past and paid with blood but take cognizance from the fact that ‘the mill of God grinds slowly but surely’. Today, we ask that you continue the good work so that we can be rid of Guyanese who are only interested in betraying the trust we have placed in them and in so doing raping our national coffers, insulting our intelligence and shaming us as a nation where fraud, corruption, thievery, have become national institutions.
