A grieving mother, in search of answers, is offering a monetary reward to anyone with information as it
relates to the death of her 21-year-old son, whose battered body was identified in the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC)’s mortuary on July 13, last.
The remains of Salman Khan of 2474 Tuschen Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara (WCD) were found four days after he went missing. From all indications, Khan had been beaten and chopped during what police say was a robbery. The victim had over $150,000 on him at the time of his disappearance. When he was found, his phone and money were missing.
To date, the police have arrested three persons who were last seen imbibing with Khan, but they were all released.
In a recent interview, Khan’s mother, Bibi told this publication that since her son was 16 years old, he started working and supported her financially. “He worked and paid my loan and did everything for me. He was so good.”
The older Khan said that it hurts her to know that her son did not get to enjoy his life and start a family of his own. For this, she is determined to have her son’s killer(s) punished.
According to Khan, when her son disappeared, she started asking questions and found out that he was last seen with three boys from Tuschen.
“I heard that he was drinking with some boys and when the police hold them up, they said they drink Guinness, and after that they were walking when my son jumped in a taxi and they didn’t see him back. They don’t know what colour car he jumped in or anything else,” the man’s mother claimed.
She is pleading for a thorough investigation to be conducted into her son’s murder, since she is convinced that the persons who were last seen with the fisherman must have important information about how he met his demise.
She is calling on persons, who may have seen or heard something, to come forward and assist her family.
Going back to the day her son disappeared, the woman said that he had returned home from sea on July 8, last, and went to discharge the vessel the following day.
“He come home and bring fish and then he ready and left home around 2:30 (p.m. on Saturday) to collect his money from the boss man and I never see him back,” the tearful mother recounted.
She explained that when her son did not return later that day, she called his phone around 21:00 hrs and he answered and informed her that he was with his boss and would be home shortly.
A devastated Khan said that she called her son again around 21:30 hrs but did not get a response.
After he failed to return home the following day, Khan said that she called her son’s boss and was informed that the young man left in a taxi a little after 21:00 hrs with his salary – $150,000.
“When dem boys go to collect their money, the boss man does buy some beers for them to drink.
The boss said that he send my son home in a taxi,” the woman said.
She explained that her son, who was then seen by residents with the three boys, disappeared. The next time she would see him was at the mortuary.
