Dear Editor,
Mr. Ramjattan’s justification of the shady bond deal is a new low in the continuing credibility erosion of the Government. He should realize that Guyanese people know how to play cricket and that they are not stupid. He insults Guyanese by likening the deal to a dropped catch in cricket.
Indeed a dropped catch is a good example of a mistake, because of the random nature of a ball’s trajectory. The player could easily misjudge the speed, angle etc of the ball, the wind and the sun could also be a factor. These are things that the player has no control over,
Mr. Ramjattan, a better analogy would be a player trying to steal a single against the advice of his captain and getting run out. And then belligerently arguing with the umpire, even after the replays show that he was clearly out.
In this case, we would be dealing with a player who is of hard ears, thinks that he is smarter than his teammates, has poor judgment and likely an unfit cricketer. He should be dropped from the squad, given remedial training and encouraged to try out for the next season.
This is an example of an egotistical player who chooses to ignore the advice of the team and to dismiss what is considered as ‘best practice’ in the game – all personal choices that he has control over. The fact is that we have a Minister who is expected to be competent and make decision based on facts and the mandate of the government. This clearly was not the case and to brush it off as a ‘mistake’ is a slap in the face of all Guyanese.
