Two young children are feared drowned after a boat slammed into the vessel in which they were travelling with their parents in the Waini River, North West District, on Thursday night.
Police identified the children as Davenand Da Silva, six, and his seven-year-old sister, Lisa Da Silva.
The other occupants of the vessel were their father, Basil Da Silva, 49, his reputed wife, Celina James, 47, and their 10-year-old son, Dwayne Da Silva.
According to reports, the family was heading home in their wooden boat at around 21.30 hrs after a fishing trip, when another vessel, travelling at a fast rate, slammed their boat from behind.
The family was hurled into the river. Both parents and 10-year-old Dwayne managed to swim ashore, but the two small children could not be located.
The owner of the other vessel has reportedly not been arrested.
