Eagles United romped to their second win in as many matches when they edged Netrockers on Wednesday afternoon last as play in the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) leg of the GFF/NAMILCO Thunderbolt
Flour Power National Under-17 league continued at the Wisburg School ground.
Contesting the feature match after Topp XX had taken care of business against Amelia’s Ward Panthers 6-0, Eagles soared to a comfortable 3-0 lead by the end of the first half and despite a late rally from Netrockers which scored two unanswered second half goals, Eagles sealed full points.
The winners took an early lead when Jamal Allicock headed into the back of the nets from a corner taken in the 3rd minute of play. They never looked back and by the half hour mark, had virtually sealed the win.
Omar Brewley who had netted a double in their previous 4-0 win over High Stars, continued his fine form by slamming in the second goal in the 12th minute. Rasheed Johnson who also scored in the High Stars win scored their third goal on 30 minutes.
A re-energised Netrockers came out in the second half intent on drawing level and almost accomplished that aim by hammering back to back goals within a two minute span. Joel Isaacs reduced the deficit when he hit the network in the 56th minute and two minutes later, it was a Kennel Batson goal that further reduced the lead as Netrockers came within one goal of drawing level, 2-3.
But Eagles was able to keep their opponents at bay for the remaining 32 minutes, in the process securing their one goal advantage to walk away with all three points.
