Attorney Nigel Hughes yesterday closed the prosecution’s case in the preliminary inquiry (PI) into the murder of political activist, Courtney Crum-Ewing, for which Regan Rodrigues is charged with the indictable offence.
Rodrigues also known as ‘Grey Boy’ of Riverview, Ruimveldt, is accused of killing Crum-Ewing on March 10, 2015, at Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Former Police Constable, Delecia Brown was recalled to the witness box, where she identified several photographs she took at the crime scene. Those photographs along with spent shells Brown retrieved from the scene were tendered and marked as evidence in the PI.
Thereafter, Hughes informed the court that he would be bringing a closure to the prosecution’s case.
Defence Counsel Adrian Thompson, who is representing Rodrigues, requested that his client be granted leave to review the evidence and prepare submissions, which he intends to do verbally.
Magistrate Judy Latchman adjourned the matter until September 9.
According to reports, the bullet-riddled body of Crum-Ewing was found at Third Avenue, Diamond New Scheme EBD. The 40 year-old was shot twice to the temple, once to the back of the head and twice to the stomach.
The police in a statement had stated that the political activist was accosted by four men in a car, one of whom discharged several rounds, hitting him about the body. It was reported that the killer (s) used a .32 pistol to execute Crum-Ewing.
