An unemployed father of two who was allegedly caught on CCTV camera breaking into an internet café at Charlotte Street, Georgetown, was yesterday remanded to prison after he appeared in a city court.
Jason Joseph, 31, of 164 Charlotte Street, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on August 17, he broke and entered the internet café of Orlando Batson and stole $142,000 cash and an electronic tablet.
An unrepresented Joseph was instructed to return to court on September 7, for disclosure of statements. He told the Magistrate that he has no pending matters or previous convictions.
When asked by Magistrate Judy Latchman if he had any objections to bail, Prosecutor Bostwick replied in the affirmative. He pointed out that CCTV footage retrieved from the business shows the defendant removing the items. The prosecutor said that there is a possibility Joseph might flee the jurisdiction if granted pre-trial liberty.
The accused was then refused bail.
