Upper Demerara Schools Track Club and Christianburg/Wismar Secondary School (CWSS) are expected to present a formidable force for this weekend’s Boyce/Jefford Track and Field Classic VII at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Ground in Linden.
The two clubs have registered as Linden as they did last year in what is a united effort to challenge the two frontrunners for the top prize of $1 million, Police Progressive Youth Club (PPYC), and The Guyana Defence Force.
Coach of CWSS, Moses Pantlitz and Upper Demerara Coach, Johnny Gravesande will Coach the Linden team, which is still looking for its first overall title at the championship. The two Coaches believe that a united effort was the best direction for Linden.
Pantlitz is the Coach of athletes like Cassie George and Compton Caesar; the United States based George is in Guyana to give Linden a much-need boost. George is currently a scholarship student in the US while Caesar is another top athlete from the region.
Caesar has a wealth of experience from the Commonwealth Youth Games and CARIFTA Games that will aide him this weekend. Meanwhile, Gravesande will add the experience of the long and triple jumper, Winston Caesar to the team.
According to news emanating from Linden, the two Coaches are working together hoping they will be able to win the event. Gravesande had said that the merger is the right way since a lot of people in Linden have been calling for that unity.
Linden has registered a full team for the Championships this weekend. Apart from the winning purse, the second place club gets $500,000 while third place takes home $300,000 and the fourth place team pockets $200,000.
