Following the successful hosting of the Boys and Girls Caribbean Basketball Confederation Under 16 Championships from July 2-17, at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, where the Guyana U16 boys placed second to Bahamas, The Guyana Under 15 Boys team will be participating in the 2016 CentroBasket Under 15 Young Men Championships from August 24-28 in Puerto Rico a release from Nigel Hinds the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) President indicated.
Two members of the U16 team are in the U15 team, namely: Roydon Glasgow and Jermaine King.
The full team comprises: Kwesi Roberts (Captain), Josiah Daniels, Shaquawn Gill, Roydon Glasgow, Corey Graham, Jether Harris, Isaiah Hintzen, Jermaine King, Immanuel La Rose, Lugard O. Mohan, Kobe Tappin, Anthony Yansen. The Head Coach is Lugard Mohan, with Assistant Coaches – Keving Bonnet, Cameron Willon and Alex Graham as Manager. Sherwin Henry will be the referee from Guyana.
New Guyana Pharmaceutical Company Incorporated (NEW GPC INC) is the flagship sponsor for the Guyana team. The other sponsors are Camex Restaurant Inc.; Dean Hassan of Tesoura Resources and Fly Jamaica.
It is the first time that the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation will be sending a Youth team to the Caribbean and Central American Championships. Another first is that a Guyana youth team will be playing on American Territory, namely Puerto Rico.
The GABF wishes to thank all sponsors, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the US Embassy for expediting the issuance of visas to twelve members of the Guyana team.
The team departed today and returns on August 28.
