Guyana National Rifle Association (GuyanaNRA) Fullbore Captain Mahendra Persaud finished a creditable 29th of 50 shooters in the Governor General Final of the just concluded 134th Canadian Fullbore Rifle Championships which ended on Saturday at the Connaught Ranges, Ottawa.
Persaud, competing in his third Governor General Final in as many years ended with a total score of 291v26 and was the lone Caribbean shooter to make it to the final following more than a week of competition that attracted close to 200 of the leading marksmen and women from around the world.
Winning the final was the UK’s Angus McLeod with a final score of 299v36; he took away the Governor General Award, a Gold Badge and Can $500. Second was Canada’s own Fazal Mohideen with a score of 299v28 and took the silver badge and Can $250, while the bronze badge and Can $100 went to USA’s Emil Praslick who tallied 297v36.
Persaud went into the final with a score of 150v19 which was accumulated from his shoots in the President’s competition. In the Final, he shot 72v5 at the 800 range and 69v2 at 900m.
