– mom unconscious, three others injured
A two-year-old girl was killed and her four-year-old sister and mother injured at around
01.00 hrs yesterday after a speeding car slammed into the vehicle in which they were travelling on the Mahaicony Public Road.
Police said that Rafina Harry succumbed at the Georgetown Hospital, where her sister, Ravina Harry, four, and their mother, whose identity was not verified, were also admitted. The children’s mother was still unconscious up to late yesterday.
Also hospitalized are Latoya Wayne, 33, a marketing employee of Little Rock Television Station at New Amsterdam; driver Sue Ann Walcott, 36, of Melanie, East Coast Demerara; Carlos Fausette, 33, the other driver, of Glasgow Village, New Amsterdam, Berbice, and Samantha Dowding, 34, of Linden, who is a Guyana Fire Service employee.
According to reports, Sue Ann Walcott, was driving towards Georgetown at a fast rate when she lost control and collided with Carlos Fausette’s car, which was carrying the two little girls and their mother.
Fausette was reportedly transporting passengers from Georgetown to Berbice.
Eyewitnesses recalled seeing the two girls and their mother lying motionless on the roadway near the mangled vehicles.
The injured were reportedly taken to the Mahaicony Hospital before being transported by ambulance to the GPHC. Rafina Harry succumbed shortly after.
A relative of Latoya Wayne said that she had travelled to the city earlier in the day and was heading back to Berbice when the accident occurred.
Samantha Dowding’s sister, Sharon Ramdass, said that her sibling was travelling to Berbice to visit her eight-month-old daughter.
Up to late yesterday evening, Wayne, Dowding and Fausette were in a stable condition.
