An army platoon sergeant is nursing burns after a simulated attack on Thursday went wrong.
According to a statement from the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), around 17:45hrs on Thursday, Sergeant Christopher Alleyne was injured during Exercise Homeguard when his section came under attack.
Alleyne, a Platoon Sergeant, attempted to raise an alarm after a simulated attack was carried out on his position, the army explained.
“While raising the alarm a flare fell on his trousers igniting his left leg above his knees resulting in first and second degree burns.”
The injured soldier was airdashed to Base Camp Ayanganna, then taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he received treatment and was discharged.
“Sgt. Alleyne is currently a patient at the Medical Centre at Base Camp Ayanganna in high spirits,” the army said.
