The police in B Division along with hundreds of youths from the various youth clubs in the division recently hosted a successful one day cavalcade of sports at the Scot Church Ground, Princess Elizabeth Road New
Amsterdam, Berbice.
The activity which was held as part of the 177th anniversary celebrations on Guyana Police Force was held under the patronage of B Divisional Commander, Assistant Commissioner Ian Amsterdam.
Some results of the day were in the male open 80 meters dash – Titus Webster won from Disu-Du Morris for a one two for the West Berbice No3 subdivision.
The West Berbice No3 subdivision also dominated the female 80 meters open event with Denita Jackson winning from Oneisha Grant.
West Berbice was again in winner’s row in the girls U-8, 60-meter dash with Oshay Roberts winning from Okeish James.
In the boys U8 event, Cody Sam of West Berbice continued the winning streak as he won from Yuinton Crandon of No2 subdivision, Corentyne.
There were joint winners in the 11-a-side five over softball cricket competition, after the final was not played due to time constraints. The two finals were both from the No 2 sub-division fielded two teams.
The dominoes competition saw Gold of New Amsterdam striking gold with an easy win in the five teams’ competition. Gold amassed 87 games to defeat Massive of West Berbice with 79, Unruly of New Amsterdam with 78, while Royalty of West Berbice with 77 and the female police /CPG team which ended in the cellar, could only muster 62 games.
The top two teams received cash incentives and trophies, while the third place finisher collected a trophy compliments of Commander Amsterdam.
Inspector Cynthia Kelly, head of the No3 Subdivision youth groups and Assistant Superintendent Harvey John collected the awards for the winning subdivision team.
The march past among the youth groups was won by Sub-division No1 (New Amsterdam/Canje/East Bank/ East Coast Berbice). (Samuel Whyte)
