A police recruit was yesterday ordered to pay a fine of $50,000 with an alternative of spending three months in prison, after he pleaded guilty to stealing a cell phone at the Felix Austin Police Training Centre.
Nicholas Harvey, 19, of 372 ‘A’ Field Sophia admitted that on August 14, he stole a cell phone belonging to Doran La Fleur.
The prosecutor told the court that on the day in question, the victim left the phone to charge on a table in the barricade room and left for the bathroom. The prosecutor stated that after La Fleur finished showering, he used the cell phone to call his mother and later left to fold some clothes. It was revealed that when the victim returned to the barricade room he noticed that the phone was missing and raised an alarm.
When asked by Magistrate Fabayo Azore if he had anything to say, Harvey apologized and claimed he acted out of ignorance.
Meanwhile, in another case, immigration officer, Constable Donette Jupiter was released on $75,000 bail, for allegedly stealing a Samsung Galaxy cell phone, a memory card and SIM all totaling $140,000.
It is alleged that on August 12, at the Central Immigration and Passport Office, she stole the items belonging to Royden McPherson.
The prosecutor did not reveal any facts about what transpired on the day in question. Jupiter is scheduled to appear in court today.
