A father and his two sons were on Wednesday remanded to jail on charges of attempted murder. One of the sons also had a separate charge of wounding.
Rohit Girdharry, 21, called “Natesh”, his brother Rajesh Girdharry called “Cox”, 24, and their father Rohan Girdharry, 45, are accused of – around 15:30 hrs on Sunday August 14 at Mai Mai Dam, Angoy’s Avenue – wounding Ashton Simon with intent to murder him. They are also accused of wounding Jason Wilson with intent to murder him.
And Rajesh Girdharry is accused of wounding Valas Motie.
The three accused appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore and were not required to plead. They were remanded to jail until October 7 for report.
The state’s case, being presented by Prosecutor Corporal Winston Poliah, is that on the day in question Simon, 42, a father of five, of 22 Sheet Anchor, East Canje Berbice, Wilson, 27, an operator of Mai Mai Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, and Valas Motie called “Buddy”, 25, of 19 Sheet Anchor, East Canje, Berbice, were injured by the men following an altercation at Mai Mai dam.
The accused and Wilson all lived in the said area. The police had received certain information and had raided the home of the accused. The men subsequently accused Wilson of giving information to the police and threats were issued.
Wilson subsequently relocated from the area. On the day in question Wilson accompanied by Simon, one Devon Hercules and Motie, along with taxi driver Andray Lewis, returned to the area when they were pounced upon and brutally attacked.
Simon was chopped on his right side neck; his left arm was severed above the wrist while his right arm was also badly chopped.
Wilson was chopped on his upper back, his chest, while his left ear was severed.
Motie was chopped to his right side rib.
The assailants fled the scene after committing the act. The police had returned to the area around 01:00 on Monday and nabbed the two brothers. Their father was arrested around noon the following day after he visited the police station.
The prosecution had objected to bail on the ground of the serious nature of the offence. The men are still hospitalized and one was still in a critical state.
