Guyana National Rifle Association (GuyanaNRA) Fullbore Captain Mahendra Persaud
has been the standout shooter to date as part of a 9-member Caribbean contingent which includes the leading Caribbean markswoman Shellyann Hinds of Barbados; competing at the 134th Canadian Fullbore Rifle Championships.
Persaud has an overall score of 606v59 which is the Grand Aggregate total as at Wednesday August 17th which places him 39th of the 182 shooters competing. Countrymen Lennox Braithwaite and Sigmund Douglas have accumulated 584v39 and 551v25 and are 119th and 163rd overall respectively; 4th and 5th for the regional shooters.
Trinidad and Tobago’s Norris Gomez, immediate past President of the West Indies Fullbore Shooting Council (WIFBSC) is 99th overall and 2nd to Persaud for the Caribbean with a total of 590v41.
The top female shooter in the Caribbean and Barbados’ lone representative in Canada Ms. Shellyann Hinds is 3rd overall for the region with a score of 588v39 and 109th overall; Ms Hinds is continuing her excellent form from the Caribbean championships that were held in Antigua last May.
Next is Antigua and Barbuda’s Thomas Greenaway at 164th with 550v22 followed by fellow
Antiguan Christopher Joseph at 171st (531v21) and the Bermuda trio of Nelson Simons 176th (462v18), David Dumont 178th (383v6) and Neville Trott 179th (343v10).
On the Highest Possible Score (HPS) Prize List is Mahendra Persaud for his possible of 50 at the Beckett 300, Brick 500 and President’s 300, 500 and 600 ranges. Lennox Braithwaite for his 50 in the President’s 300 and 600, Norris Gomez for his 50 in the McDougall 300, Shellann Hinds for her 50 in the President’s 300.
Leading the Grand Aggregate is David Calvert of Australia with 618v79, from Mike Barlow 617v65, Jon Underwood 616v79, Jim Paton 616v77, Angus McLeod UK 616v75, Amanda Elsenboss of the USA 616v74, and Lindsay Peden 616v66.
The Grand Aggregate is made up of the following 14 ranges – MacDougall 500 & 300; Beckett 300 & 800; Brick 500 & 600; Leston 300, 500 & 600; Alex. of Tunis 900; President’s 300, 500 & 600; Gibson 800.
