– mom, four-year-old injured
A 15-year-old girl was killed and her mother and four-year-old sister injured after a car, driven by her stepfather, slammed into a utility pole at Dundee Public Road, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.
The accident occurred at around 01.30 hrs yesterday.
Police said that the teen, identified as Julia Ronald, of New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara, died on the spot.
Her mother, Paula Ronald, 40, also of New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, sustained a broken hand, while four-year-old Nina Ronald is hospitalized with a broken leg.
Her eight-year-old brother, and the driver, identified as Patrick Mayers, 43, escaped uninjured.
According to reports, the family was heading home after travelling to Corentyne, Berbice, when Mayers lost control of his car, PNN 4887, and slammed into a utility pole on the Dundee Public Road, Mahaicony. The vehicle then overturned.
Julia Ronald sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead on the spot. Her mother and four-year-old sister were admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Police said that the driver was detained after a breathalyzer test indicated that he had consumed over the legal limit of alcohol.
At around 22.00 hrs on Saturday, 27-year-old John Forde of 17 Supply Mahaica, East Coast Demerara died after he lost control of the car he was driving and the vehicle overturned in a canal on the Ann’s Grove Public Road, East Coast Demerara.
And on Sunday, motorcyclist Dominic Fabian King, 27, perished after slamming into a utility pole on the Belle Vue public road, West Bank Demerara.
