Eleven years old Rennacko Roberts, an Under 13 cricketer of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, MS, copped the “Student of the Year” Award when the RHTYSC/ Republic Bank 2016 Educational Holiday Camp Concluded at the Area ‘H’ Ground on Friday last.
The Camp was conducted be Senior Teacher Pamela Adrian and a total of 60 students attended the five weeks programme. Students were drawn from across Region 6 as parents took advantage of the free course to prepare their children for entry into Secondary School.
Secretary/CEO of the RHTYSC Hilbert Foster stated that the Camp was very successful and that each student was now fully prepared to make a successful transition from the primary to secondary level.
The students were taught Mathematics, English ‘A’, English B, Social Studies and Integrated Science, while they were also involved in twelve sessions on a range of topics of interest to youths. Using the RHTYSC, MS Youth information Booklet, the youths were educated on drug abuse, suicide, personal hygiene, importance of education, personal discipline, choosing friends, peer pressure, table manners and HIV/Aids. Students of the Camp were also taught the basic of playing cricket by members of RHTYSC, MS as part of the Club’s Say Yes to Sports Programme.
The long standing Secretary/CEO at the graduation ceremony urged the attentive students to always strive for excellence and spoke broadly on the importance of education. Foster stated that to be successful in school, students must develop a love for reading, research and an ability to listen carefully in the classroom. He also urged the students to always Say No to Drugs, Crime and Suicide and told them that the next five years in Secondary school would decide their future. The RHTYSC, MS he stated would continue to invest heavily in education and informed them that the Club is always available to be of assistance to them. Foster also expressed gratitude to Republic Bank for its continued sponsorship of the Camp and make special mention of Rose Hall Town Staffer Harry Das Ghaness, Samantha Leitch and Seema Brijlal.
Camp Tutor Pamela Adrian stated that each of the students showed improvements during the programme and praised the discipline displayed over the five weeks. Adrian explained the difference between the Primary and Secondary School level and expressed confidence that every one of the students would be successful in the transition. The hard working educator also expressed gratitude to Republic Bank for investing in the educational career of youths.
The full list of Awardees at the Camo were Best Mathematics Student – Jamin Etwaroo, Best English Student – Karen Narine, Best Social Studies – Alisa Butcher, Best Science – Rennacko Roberts, Most Disciplined Student – Savishkra Sukhra and Best Overall student – Rennacko Roberts.
The Camp was coordinated by the RHT Farfan and Mendes Under 15, Bakewell Under 17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under 19 and Intermediate, Metro Female and Gizmos and Gadgets under 21 and Fist Division Cricket Teams.
