Dear Editor,
We, the small miners at Puruni area are very unhappy over the situation in the area. We spend a lot of time prospecting work-ground and when we find payable places we are being forced out.
The big landowners in the area stop all work over two weeks now in Sauri, Granny and Chiney. We can’t work ;we have home bills and we have to pay for the excavator at the bank and the dealer. Over fifty excavators got stopped from working in Puruni, affecting over one hundred dredges.
They are telling us now that if we want to start back we have to pay two million dollars then seven ounces of gold every month. This is not economical. We think this is unfair because if we find the gold and develop the place and that ten percent land tribute or three ounces per month would be unfair since gold not making much. We are asking for somebody to intervene for us by reasoning with the multi-billionaire who owns the place.
We can’t talk openly; when you do, you get special attention and we don’t have land or money to fall back on. We are asking for help now because we are being destroyed and nobody is looking out for the small miners.
