The prosecution is winding down its case in the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) for which Colin Alleyne is charged with the murder of Danrasie Ganesh, who was found dead in her Montrose, East Coast Demerara home.
Alleyne, 23, of Timehri Cemetery Road, East Bank Demerara, is accused of killing the 77-year-old woman on August 1, 2015.
The accused appeared in court last Monday, for continuation of the PI. This newspaper was informed that Alleyne behaved in a disorderly manner as he usually does.
Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul sitting in the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court adjourned the PI until September 27.
Danrasie ‘Carmen’ Ganesh’s battered body was found in her home on the day in question, by relatives who went to check on her after she failed to answer neighbours’ calls.
The gruesome murder was captured on surveillance camera.
It was reported that Ganesh’s killer, believed to be Alleyne, clubbed her on the head with a tyre wrench and dragged her into a corner, where she collapsed.
It was then the killer wrapped a hand-towel around her neck, kicked and stomp the old woman until she laid motionless.
Alleyne was captured three weeks after the murder at Guyhoc Park, Georgetown. He reportedly told detectives that a male relative of Ganesh made him $700,000 to kill the old woman and steal documents pertaining to her property.
