National U17 pacer Joshua Jones and left-handed batsman Orlando Jailall struck half centuries before rain halted play in the Essequibo Cricket Board Academy two-day game between Shane Wong XI and Mahindra Persaud XI which is being sponsored by Golden Fleece Rice Investment.
Jailall slammed an unbeaten 58 to guide Shane Wong XI to 110-6 off their allotted 30 overs, batting first at Imam Bacchus ground, Affiance. Skipper Wong got 18 as Joshua Jones snared three wickets.
Jones then stroked a fine 63 as Persaud XI responded with 127-5 in 30 overs. Silvan Williams made 22. Trailing by 17, Wong XI closed the first day on 72-4 off 20 overs, batting a second time.
Jailall was unbeaten on 48, while N. Ramotar made 20. Persaud picked up two wickets.
However, constant rainfall prevented further play on the second day, but the players were given fitness drills by Coach Forbes Daniels with assistance from Jones.
Speaking with the players yesterday, Region two Chairman Davenanand Ramdatt urged the youths to take the game seriously and to focus on their education. He encouraged the organisers to seek assistance from his office for such ventures in the future.
Meanwhile, Anil Lamb informed that he journeyed from his home in Upper Mazaruni to be part of the clinic since he was informed about it via Kaieteur Sport.
