The day has finally arrived and all systems are in place for the much anticipated 10th Annual Guyana Cup 2016 Horserace Meet at the Port Mourant “Big Yard” Turf Club, Corentyne Berbice today.
All is set for the King of Sports, a record 120 horses have entered and thousands of turfites are expected at the edge of their seats, the atmosphere promises to be electrifying as the bugle sounds, the gate is released and away they go for the start of Guyana Cup 2010. Not to forget that $30M is up for grabs in the richest horserace meet in Guyana.
The mega event is organized by the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and Racing stables in collaboration with the Port Mourant Turf Club.
The main A3 feature event will see the winner cantering off with an unbelievable $4M along with the Banks DIH trophy from a sumptuous $8M package over 1800M. The winner will also take home an extra $500,000, while the winning jockey will ride away with $200,000 bonus.
A look at the A class event will see 15 of Guyana Top runners in contention for the massive takings on offer.
The Jumbo Jet Stables leads the entries with four horses with the likes of No1 ranked Kings Knight, Jack in My Style, Climate Change and Blame the Jockey, they have a good chance of taking the coveted prize back home. The Sheriff stable has always being in the reckoning and with three top runners in Spit Fire, Plum Plum and Princess She Not, they are in with an excellent chance to take the crown.
The Elcock and Poonai stable has a very formidable duo in double defending champion CP Got Even and Because I Say So looking good and ready to defend their crown. The Nand Persaud Karibee Rice Stable also has two runners in the impressive Golden Blue Echo and the newly Imported Brace Sky out of the USA. The Jagdeo stable has a formidable duo in Just Call Me Boss and Goodwill Boy and are expected to be in the money.
One cannot forget that Guyana only A class animal Score’s Even of the Simple Royal Stable is back to full fitness and seems unbeatable. Lady Budapest of the Bactowar stable seems to be in its best form since coming to Guyana and will be in the reckoning. The event is expected to be a scorcher and a ding dong battle in anticipated.
The 3 year old co-feature 1600M event for West Indies and Guyana bred horses over 7 ½ furlongs will be two events in one.
Among the entries are Witchy Poo, Red Rocket, Isn’t She Charming, Firing Line, Caricom Dancer, Golden Kiss, She Is In Control and Lil Axe competing for the $2M and trophy. The Guyana Bred winner will have a chance to win $300,000.
The two year old event for Guyana Bred horses has a $400,000 first prize and trophy over 1100M, among the starters are Super Cat, Royal Jet, Perfect Gold, King Stanley, Awesome Cash, Flash Again, Natural Beauty, Genuine Risk, Seven Dust, Who Shock the Shariff, Miss Olympic and the Rocket.
The E and lower 1300M event for a take home of $800,000 and trophy will see Release the Beast, Because I Say So, Plum Plum, Perfect Wind Storm, Keep On Swinging, Precise Gold, Good Will Boy, Right To Rule, Mass Media, Red and Lovely, Mansoon, California Strike and Wise Secret among others competing.
The G1 and Lower and West Indies and Guyana open event is for horses that haven’t started since August 30th 2015. The winning prize is $650,000 and trophy over 1200M. Big Man Boss, Captain Crook, Campador, Got To Go, Quiet Strom, It’s My Choice and Valtimore have entered.
