-16 horses to start in feature “A” class event
The 10th Annual Guyana Cup Horserace meeting has attracted a record 120 entries. According to the organisers it is the first time that so many horses have been entered for a horserace event in Guyana which is being touted as the biggest and best.
Despite the bevy of events for the holiday season the Guyana Cup is turning out to be the event to beat with its colossal $30M at stakes which includes cash, trophies and other memorabilia.
With thousands of overseas based Guyanese and visitors in the country for the holidays the venue is expected to be packed to capacity.
Organized by the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and racing stables in collaboration with the Port Mourant Turf Club the activity is set for tomorrow at the Port Mourant “Big Yard” Turf Club.
Nine races are carded for the day. In an effort to accommodate the large number of entries the organisers have made a few adjustments to the programme so that all the animals will have an opportunity to participate.
The feature A and lower event has some 16 horses entered to compete for the sumptuous $4M and the Guyana Cup Trophy available for the winner from a whopping $8M package over 1800M.
The event is expected to be a scorcher with horses such animals as CP Got Even, Score’s Even, Kings Knight, Just Call Me Boss, Princess She Not, Golden Blue Echo, Spit Fire, Plum Plum, Goodwill Boy, Lady Budapest, Climate Change, Blame the Jockey, Jack in My Style, Because I Say So, Bridal Stone Corner and the newly imported Brave Sky out of the USA in the running.
The 3 year old co-feature event for West Indies and Guyana bred horses over 7 ½ furlongs will be two events in one.
The winner will race away with $2M and trophy; however the Guyana bred horses have an opportunity to win $300,000 if they fail to place in the top three as they will also be judged separately.
The two year old event remains for Guyana Bred horses for the $400,000 first prize and trophy over 1100M. The E and lower event which goes for 1300M for a take home of $800,000 and trophy. The G1 and Lower and West Indies and Guyana open event is for horses that haven’t started since August 30th 2015. The winning prize is $650,000 and trophy over 1200M.
H1 and lower 1200M event for West Indies bred horses that have not started since August 30th 2015 is for a $400,000 first prize and trophy.
The second H class event is for H and lower Guyana Bred and H3 West Indies Bred maiden and 3 years non-earners of over $150,000. The distance is 6furlongs for a winner’s money of $350,000 and trophy.
The J class event is now for J2 horses 4 years and over and all L class winners 4 years and over. The first prize is $350,000 and trophy over 6furlongs. The L and lower 1100M event is now for maiden horses over 6 ½ furlongs for a winning purse of $250,000 and trophy.
A number of foreign and overseas based jockeys will be in action with some already in the country.
Major sponsors on board for the event include Government of Guyana, Banks DIH Limited, Trophy Stall, Nand Persaud and Company, Digicel, Hand in Hand and the America Promotional group “Live By the Henny” of New York City.
Among other animals set to race are Big Man Boss, Captain Crook, Quiet Strom, Cat Messiah, Appealing Harvest, Release the Beast, Plum Plum, Perfect Wind Storm, Keep On Swinging, Wise Secret, Rosetta, Super Bowl, It’s My Turn, It’s My Choice, Cat Messiah, Valtimore, Witchy Poo, Red Rocket, Isn’t She Charming Firing Line, Super Cat, Royal Jet, Perfect Gold, King Stanley, Awesome Cash, Flash Again, Natural Beauty and Seven Dust.
The top Jockey along with the runner up, the top stable and champion trainer will all be presented with trophies and other incentives compliments of the organizers and Trophy Stall.
