– but bullet still lodged in throat
Sarojni Warnauth, who was shot in the mouth Wednesday night by her husband at their Lot 24 North Road, Georgetown home, has regained consciousness. Her condition is listed as stable but severe. She is a patient in a private hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.
Doctors had to perform emergency surgery on Warnauth to stop the bleeding and to assist her in breathing. She will have to undergo a second operation to remove the warhead that is lodged in her throat.
Kaieteur News understands that the bullet damaged the woman’s jaw and reconstructive surgery will be needed once she is out of danger.
Persons who visited Warnauth at the hospital yesterday said that she is aware of her surroundings, but she cannot speak due to her injuries.
Meanwhile, medical personnel confirmed that the shooter, Theodore Adams called “Totie,” had been seeing a psychiatrist.
Kaieteur News was informed that the 73-year-old man was suffering from a severe case of depression.
According to information received, Adams and his wife had an argument and he then picked up the gun and shot her to the face, in the presence of her 10-year-old daughter.
Although she was shot, the woman and her daughter managed to run and lock themselves in a bedroom, before escaping through a window. They were rescued by nearby residents and rushed to the hospital.
The gold miner reportedly shot himself just under his right ear minutes after the woman escaped from the house.
His licenced firearm was discovered at the scene.
Kaieteur News was told that for the past week, Adams was on “the edge” and might have “tripped” when he shot his partner and turned the gun on himself.
Warnauth’s daughter reportedly told police that her mother had “just dished out dinner” for Adams, when he accused her of mixing poison in his meal.
There are reports that the miner had been claiming that persons wanted to kill him.
Relatives who asked not to be named said that the miner started suffering from a mental breakdown when he suspected his wife had cheated on him some years ago. They insist his illness was not severe.
