A potentially major disaster was averted yesterday at the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Dean of the Faculty, Dr Emanuel Cummings told Kaieteur News that a small fire, believed to be electrical in origin, was quickly contained.
According to reports, staff of the faculty observed flames on an electrical wire and immediately raised an alarm. The main switch in the building where the fire started was turned off and some staff members used fire extinguishers to quell the flames.
Fire fighters, who arrived shortly after, ensured that the fire was properly doused.
Other than visible scorches, there was no other damage to the Faculty building.
Yesterday’s fiery threat brought back memories of a conflagration that caused a fair degree of damage to the Faculty of Natural Sciences. That fire completely gutted the Section “C” building.
