-Students going through their paces at Imam Bacchus ground
The Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB) has commenced a one-week Coaching Camp for Under-17 cricketers at the Imam Bacchus ground Affiance.
The camp got underway on Monday last with 40 cricketers from Wakenaam, Essequibo Coast and Pomeroon and is being facilitated by Coach Forbes Daniels.
Sessions start at 09:00hrs and conclude at 16:30hrs daily with students being tutored on batting, bowling, fielding, wicket-keeping, laws of cricket and game sense as well as life skills development.
Daniels told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that the players will be engaged in a two-day game starting from today and will also take on an Imam Bacchus XI in a 50-over contest on Sunday. Daniels indicated that he is pleased with the turnout and discipline shown by the youths.
”There are some talented youths here and they have shown the willingness to learn. Essequibo cricket needs such clinic so the young players can be exposed to certain aspects of the game which can be beneficial for them going forward,” he stated.
Daniels related that he hopes to conduct similar camps on a regular basis and calls on the business community for assistance. The programme is being sponsored by Imam Bacchus and Golden Fleece Rice Investment.
