A deportee who sexually harassed a woman and threatened to rape her has been jailed for two years and fined $50,000. He reportedly took out his penis and showed it to the woman.
Anand Ramdass, 37, a deportee from the USA, and of Lot 288 Sukhoo Street, No.2 Village East Canje, Berbice, appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court where the matter was heard ex parte.
Police Prosecutor, Corporal Winston Poliah, presented the state’s case.
The man was charged with the offence which was committed on September 8, 2014, at Charles Place, New Amsterdam Berbice.
The 18-year-old victim who is unemployed, resides with her parents. The two are not known to each other and on the day in question the woman had gone to her neighbour to purchase ice.
At the same time Ramdass, who is a relative of the neighbour, was visiting the residence.
As the woman was leaving, the accused ran and held on to her bicycle. The woman pushed him off and they had a scuffle. Ramdass then used expletives, exposed himself before the woman, and made an indecent proposal.
The matter was then reported and he was arrested and charged.
