Representing Crossfit 592, Guyana’s first and only official Crossfit affiliate did represent with pride at last Saturday’s 2016 CrossFit 12-12-12 Throwdown at St. Anthony Ground, West Moorings, in the Twin Island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Hosted by T&T’s first officially affiliated Crossfit gym, Crossfit 12-12-12, this inaugural contest in the Land of Soca attracted over 100 of the best athletes in the sport. While Guyana is fairly new to the sport, the athletes from the Land of Many Waters represented with pride.
Competing in the RX or Open class, Dillon Mahadeo ended a satisfying 3rd out of 40 athletes while contesting the Women’s Scaled Division (Novice), Angelina DeAbreau took the 1st place while countrywoman Neesa Bhagwandin was 7th. The other male Guyanese athletes that competed in the RX division also turned in creditable performances in T&T taking on the best in the Caribbean. Jamie McDonald was 10th, Carlos Mendonca 15th, Ian Rogers 16th, Dr. Osmond Mack 19th and Christian McRae, 23rd. All the competitors did the same first 3 events with different load requirements based on category. The top 10 RX men and women went on to do a fourth event and the top 5 were required to do a fifth event. Scoring was determined by tallying up the total scores for the entire day’s events.
