On Sunday, one of Essequibo’s centenarian, Clement Carrington Abrams, a/k” “Uncle Clemmie”, of Adventure,
Essequibo Coast, celebrated his 102nd Birth Anniversary, quietly with several of his relatives.
He was surrounded by his niece, Joyce Solomon, who has been taking care of him for a number of years. One of his two daughters, Joan Abrams, was also there. In his prime he fathered Joan, Maurice and Vivian.
Solomon said that her uncle, the quiet senior, is in good health.
“Uncle Clemmie” grew up in Adventure, Essequibo Coast and spent most of his life working in the animal husbandry department of the then Essequibo Boys’ School, which later became a branch of the youth corps.
“Uncle Clemmie” was also an accomplished musician. He taught music at the Boys’ School and was the organist at the St. John’s Anglican Church, at Airy Hall, Essequibo Coast.
With age, his hearing is declining. Joyce Solomon ensures that “Uncle Clemmie” gets his meals on time and that his hygiene is up to standard. Solomon also uplifts her uncle’s pension, since it is risky to allow him to venture out on the road by himself.
“Uncle Clemmie “ is the oldest resident still living in Adventure. Many of the residents in that community keep a strong eye out for him since he is well loved and respected in his community.
“Uncle Clemmie “ lost his wife, Ivy Abrams, over 50 years ago. The centenarian never remarried.
