All of the top stables have inked their names to be a part of the 10th annual Guyana Cup horserace meet which is organised by the Jumbo Jet Business Enterprise in collaboration with the Port Mourant Turf Club and slated for Sunday 14th August at the Port Mourant “Big Yard” venue.
Among the stables expecting to compete are; the Jumbo Jet racing stable which is expected to lead the way with over 15 entries, Colin Elcock Delmur racing Stable, Inshan Bacchus Racing stable, the Shariff racing stables, Crawford, Habibulla, Bactowar, Carmichael, Jagdeo, Dennis DeRoop Simple Royal, Night Eyes, Nand Persaud, Mahaicony, Jagroop/ Jagmohan and Velloza, Mahaicony, Tony, Saul, and Singh racing stables among others.
The excitement has been building tremendously as all the horses have been using all the available spaces to enhance preparation and get into top shape for the big day.
Already a number of animals from Suriname and other countries are here to do battle, while more are expected shortly as they compete on Guyana soil for the first time.
Meanwhile, two more sponsors have joined the band of sponsors for the mega event which is the largest event for the August Holidays.
The proprietors of A Khan Lumber yard and Altia Investments of Georgetown were the latest to come on board.
A number of added attractions and incentives have been made available including for the winners of the A class, the three year old and the two year old races. They will get an extra $500,000, $400,000 and $200,000 bonuses respectively.
The feature “A” and lower 1800M event will have a sizable $4M winners prize in addition to the Guyana Cup Trophy from a total package of $8M.
The co-feature 1600M event for 3yrs old horses, bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies has a winner’s take of $2M and trophy.
The two year old Guyana Bred event has a first prize of $400,000 and trophy over 1100M. The E and lower event over 1500M will see the winner taking home $800,000 and trophy over 1500M.
The event for animals’ classified G1 and lower is for animals from Suriname and those from Guyana. There is a race for horses classified H and lower and West Indies bred that have not started since August 30th 2015. The distance is 1200M for a winner’s money of $400,000.
Horses classified H3 and West Indies Maiden and also open To Guyana Bred trotters will have their chance to race over 1200M for a winner’s money of $400,000.
The event for J and K class horses will see animals from Suriname matching their skills against the Guyanese animals over 1100M for a take home incentive of $350,000 and trophy.
Horses from Suriname have also been tagged to feature in the L and lower event against those from Guyana over 1100M for a winning purse of $250,000 and trophy.
The top Jockey along with the runner up, the top stable and champion trainer will all be presented with trophies and other incentives compliments of the organizers and Trophy Stall. (Samuel Whyte)
