Dear Editor,
It is a colossal understatement to say that the East Bank Berbice road (from Islington Village to Edinburgh Village) is in a shabby, deplorable and completely unacceptable state. This letter does not serve to inform the Ministry of Public Infrastructure about the horrible condition of the East Bank Berbice public road since they are aware of its dilapidated condition. It has been decades now since this road is in such condition.
There are innumerable potholes on this very road that cause serious damages to vehicles. The condition of this road causes much discomfort to commuters, hire and private car drivers, cyclists, motor cyclists and all the residents in those areas.
There are hundreds of persons who traverse this very road on a daily basis to reach New Amsterdam and other places but what is more disheartening is that residents in those areas, motorists and even commuters would have protested and complained to the authorities on numerous occasions yet nothing was done.
When will these residents benefit from a new road? Those persons feel as though they were throwing water on duck’s back. I wish to inform this current administration that since 2013 the Regional Chairman (Region 6) and the Former President assured the residents that they will have a new road since they have approached IDB for a loan. I heard the loan was approved.
Why the delay? How long more does this process take? Is this current administration following the trend of the previous one? I hope not. No doubt, this road is in dire need for work and attention.
I would like the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure to inform the public on the status of this road works and I say with certainty that residents, commuters, and motorists will be very much elated if your response is favourable and if works on this East Bank Berbice public road can commence any time soon.
