attached to the Guyana Police Force (GPF) who recently received the requisite training in becoming Certifying Officers, not to allow their decisions to be swayed by a superior or a friend.
He called on them to exercise by sound judgment.
The Traffic Chief made this statement during a graduation ceremony held to recognise the achievements of the ranks that went through rigorous training.
The Certifying Officer Course #1 of 2016 commenced on Monday June 20, 2016 at the Guyana Police Force Officers’ Training Centre (GPFOTC) and concluded on Thursday, July 29, 2016 at Guyana Industrial Training Centre (GITC).
Training was made possible by collaborative efforts among the Board of Industrial Training (BIT); the GPF and GITC.
Moore told the graduating Ranks that they are servants of the state who will be bestowed with the power to serve after their names have been gazetted during the following weeks.
He advised the officers to exhibit a high level of tolerance when dealing with members of the public and to exercise flexibility and even caution when dealing with certain matters.
The Chief told officers that decisions must be made base on their judgement and as such, they should not allow their decisions to be swayed by a superior or a friend, but only by a sound judgement that is influenced by the knowledge and skills they have acquired and developed during the training.
The Traffic Officer stated, “I trust that you would have grasped all that was taught and that you will put it into practice so that not only the traffic department will benefit but the country at large,”. He echoed the call made by Technical Officer of BIT, Richard Maughn, “to go after knowledge continually” and urged the graduating batch of Certifying Officers to keep reading so as to widen their knowledge.
Meanwhile, Maughn during his remarks, stated that training gives an individual the opportunity to learn new things in a given time, and that learning brings about an enduring change in that individual’s performance.
It was on this note that Maughn stressed to the Ranks, that the lessons learnt during the course should aid them in the efforts of the GPF to carry out its mandate to ensure that vehicles traversing our roadways are fit for safe usage, and the persons driving those vehicles are fully competent to do same – this he pointed out will contribute significantly to safer roadways and by extension, a safer country for all.
