Trayon Bobb of champion team Slingerz FC was voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP) when the Guyana Football Federation / Stag Elite League Finale presentation was held yesterday at 704 Sports Bar, Albert and Lamaha Streets, Georgetown.
Slingerz ended the league phase with 40 points but lost to Alpha United FC on penalties in the Finale final. Fruta Conquerors finished on 34, Alpha United FC 30, Pele 17, Guyana Defence Force 17, Buxton United 11, Monedderlust 6 and Georgetown Football Club 5.
Bobb team mates Julian Wade and Winslow Mc Dowall were given the highest goal scorer (14 goals) and best goal keeper prizes while Joseph Wilson of Slingerz’s FC got the best coach trophy.
Alpha United and Slingerz collected the winner and runner-up trophies while third place Fruta Conquerors and fourth place finisher Pele FC received their accolades. Additionally Slingerz FC were given an award for accumulating the most points in the league phase while Buxton FC grabbed the Most Disciplined team prize.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, GFF President Wayne Forde congratulated Alpha United and expressed gratitude to the sponsors Ansa McAl, players and fans. He noted the importance of corporate sponsorship and stated that despite a few challenges the tournament was successful.
Forde added that the league has provided a platform for the players to further develop their careers pointing out that Guyana has won four of their last six international engagements.
He said that he is elated about the prospect to further develop the relationship GFF has with Ansa McAl and informed that Guyana will be playing against Jamaica and Suriname in round three of the CFU Scotiabank Men’s Championship in October.
Going forward, Forde indicated that the league will be adjusted in many forms of its operations and it is all part of the learning experience.
