Trinbago Knight Riders defeated St. Lucia Zouks by five wickets with nine balls to spare to advance to second qualifier when the Caribbean Premier League T20 continued last night in St. Kitts.
Zouks got up to 164-8 after they were inserted at Warner Park before Knight Riders led by an unbeaten 49 from Brendon Mc Cullum responded with 165-5 in 18.3 overs. Andre Fletcher and Johnson Charles added 62 for the opening stand to lay the platform for a decent total before Charles who hit three fours and two sixes in scoring 31 off 22 balls was removed by Kevon Cooper who also sent back Shane Watson for four.
Mike Hussey was then run out without scoring while David Miller was caught at the wicket off Nikita Miller for 13 as St. Lucia Zouks slipped to 86-4 in 12 overs. Fletcher slammed three fours and one six before he was bowled by the impressive Ronsford Beaton for 41 off 43 balls.
But Zouks were indebted to skipper Darren Sammy who provided some impetus in the latter stages of the innings, hitting one four and three sixes before he succumbed to Dwayne Bravo for a 22-ball 42. Shane Shillingford struck two maximums to remain unbeaten on 16 as Beaton claimed 3-23 and Cooper 2-26.
Hashim Amla struck Delorn Johnson for consecutive boundaries but was taken at the wicket in the first over as Trinbago Knight Riders lost their first scalp with the score on ten. Umar Akmal and Colin Munro added 47 for the second wicket before Akmal flashed at a wide ball and was caught behind off Johnson for 30 off 15 balls with five fours and a six while Munro went for 18 leaving the score at 61-3.
However Brendon Mc Cullum and Denesh Ramdin added 51 for the fourth wicket to keep their team in the hunt. Ramdin struck two fours before he went for 21 off 18 balls while Bravo was taken off Jerome Taylor for eight to leave the score at 135-5.
But McCullum anchored the innings to remain unbeaten on 49 which came off 41 balls with five fours and one six while Sunil Narine who clobbered one four and two sixes ended on 22 not out. Taylor had 2-31 and Johnson 2-44.
Knight Riders will now take on Jamaica Tallawahs in the eliminator tonight with the winner playing the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final on Sunday.
