Aug 04, 2016 Letters
Dear Editor;
In my earlier letter, I would have commended Mr. John on the excellent work he had done in making the public aware of some of the ills that staff at the Guyana School of Agriculture has been facing. I would have also mentioned some of the ills students have had to be facing and also made a request for him to say something about that in his next letter.
Mr. John mentioned very little in a few more letters and I must say I find it absolutely disgusting since it would be impossible for someone to have gathered so much information about staff and just gathered so little about students since students are facing similar plight. Shouldn’t our interest be a concern? Is it because we are students? Haven’t our parents paid their full fee? Don’t we deserve a fair chance too?
Many of the minibus and taxi drivers that work Agriculture Road are also aware that the students are in complete disgust since many are so frustrated that they shout out their problems in vehicles while travelling. They don’t have to go in GSA to get information. The information comes readily to them. I stay quiet whenever these things are going on because I have had my share of punishment there and don’t want my name calling, but I couldn’t see this letter and not respond.
Mr. Editor, I would like to borrow a word from Mr. John’s letter, and that is the word elucidate. I would like to use it to elucidate something; Mr. John wrote his letter almost a month now and to date there is no response from the authorities, I would have written mine and he just said little, (true but little), so far it seems as no government officials have gotten involved. Should this continue to be?
Mr. Editor, I would have heard during my stint at the Guyana School of Agriculture that other agencies such as Guyana Livestock Development Authorities (GLDA) and National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI) would have had a shake up in the top brass because of certain illegal activities and also persons mistreating staff, yet nothing has happened at the Guyana School of Agriculture and there is an obvious presence of both. Maybe to equalize the persons from GUDA and NAREI they should probably reinstate them.
I know it sounds crazy but they were dealt with because of what they were involved with and nothing, absolutely nothing was done at GSA. Are the authorities at GSA above the law? Do they have special favor? Should they be exempted from the punishment for doing the wrong things? Mr. Editor, this information is out in the public so anyone can get it. It is however very unfortunate that no one from the government has even looked at the matter. How about a commission of inquiry into these things that have been mentioned?
Yes, one would know that you can’t just do a COI but after a month of letters in the press and no response as yet from the institution, it is quite clear that one would understand that there is some truth into what was said. So it would be safe to assume that what Mr. John and I have said is nothing but the truth, and should be looked into by the relevant authorities.
Mr. Editor, things are so daring that strenuous efforts are being made to seek whom Paul John is than to even solve the problems. Paul John is the subject at the Guyana School of Agriculture and has gained much fame and many have been speculated as to whom he may be. I even heard staff calling one another Paul John.
Things are so daring that I was there last week to check the graduation list to see if my name was there and what category I will be graduating with that I overheard a staff telling some others; “what goes around comes around regarding Paul John.”
The staff even said he is going to Suriname soon, obviously to deal with Paul John. Can you imagine someone sending their child to an institution that persons seek media help just to stay in employment or to get rid of persons that reveal the truth?
As much as Paul John mentioned a lot I’m sure he is not aware of this and I hope that persons that can pray; pray for him and even me. Mr. Editor, I will save the pieces for now pending the response of either Mr. John, the authorities at Guyana School of Agriculture or the Government. It seems as only some places get COI while some go scotch free. Anyone familiar with GSA can tell you that nonsense has been going on for long (“too long’) and there must be a stopping to it. The Govt. needs to help us.
