General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party Civic, Clement Rohee, said yesterday that Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo and former Speaker of the National Assembly, Ralph Ramkarran are sourpusses for their critique of the PPP/C.
Speaking at a press conference at Freedom House, yesterday, Rohee said that Nagamootoo and Ramkarran have taken their stance against the PPP/C since they were unable to persuade the membership of the party to support their pursuit of the nomination to be the party’s presidential candidate.
“Neither of them succeeded in hoodwinking the leadership of the PPP/C to support their reasons why they should be the Presidential aspirant” said Rohee. According to him due to this inability, both individuals left the party and sought redress in various arenas.
He said that Nagamootoo has sought refuge in the Alliance for Change and Ramkarran has found his place in the media. Ramkarran writes a column for the Stabroek News.
According to Rohee the bottom line is that, there is a simple case of self-interest on both sides of the divide.
He said that Ramkarran and Nagamootoo have chosen to project themselves as keepers of Cheddi Jagan’s legacy and all that he stood for.
“In other words, the 35 members of the current central committee and the 18 members of the current executive are not the keepers of Cheddi Jagan’s legacy.”
According to Rohee, the credibility of the criticisms levelled by Nagamootoo may seem to have value since he is holding the position of Prime Minister. He hinted at a possibly marred reputation of Nagamootoo as an individual as opposed to being a member of Government.
“Both Mr. Nagamootoo and Mr. Ramkarran, two peas in a pod, do not have credibility when it comes to making the type of analysis and seeking to influence John or Jane Public.”
He said that in the case of Ramkarran he may have taken positions on issues which objectively support the Government. According to Rohee it cannot be said that Ramkarran is in any way supportive of the PPP/C.
“If one is to take a collection of the articles that have been written over a number of years, you will see the imbalance in how objective he is supportive of the government.”
Rohee further said that vengeance politics will get the two men nowhere. He said that the two are trying to get back at the PPP/C for not getting their way. Further Rohee relayed that both sides of the divide are practising the same type of politics and therefore no result will ensue.
Targeting Ramkarran’s recent articles, Rohee said that the former speaker is living in a bubble, cocoon or a fool’s paradise. “Mr. Ramkarran has been with the PPP for over 40 years; and what he is saying, I don’t think it reaches the ears of anyone in Guyana.
“Is he talking to the PPP supporters? Is he talking to the supporters of the APNU-AFC? Or is he talking to himself?”
According to Rohee, Ramkarran is clueless as to who his audience is, since he does not know what PPP/C supporters are going through.

This man is such a joke. He will always be Jagdeo’s little boy instead of Leader of the PPP, which is what he really aspires to becoming. Pot/Kettle Rohee.
Mr Rohee, while implying that you do not agree with their opinion, you tell us that according to Ramkarran and Nagamootoo, “… the 35 members of the current central committee and the 18 members of the current executive are not the keepers of Cheddi Jagan’s legacy.” (Speaking of the PPP’s hierarchy)
Well, they are, Rohee, they are!
Those mentioned are true keepers of Jagan’s legacy, for he, Jagan the individual, had total disregardance for accountability, dignity, diligence, duty, honour, integrity, loyalty, objectivity, responsibility and transparency in government and politics as a national party leader and was a promoter of racial discrimination … and so are they. You are right, Rohee, after all you knew him, and knows them, very well.
“Both Mr. Nagamootoo and Mr. Ramkarran … do not have credibility ….” What about you, Rohee, do you? Not even you yourself believe you are ever being believed or accepted as honest or a bearer of truth, less so “John or Jane Public.”
However, Rohee, let’s give you some credit for coming to the conclusion that “…both sides of the divide are practising the same type of politics ….” for there are indications that that may be so.
