As preparations for the Guyana Cup horserace meet continues to move full steam ahead as horses from overseas have started to arrive for the mega event even as more sponsors get on board.
The 10th annual Guyana Cup horserace meet which is organised by the Jumbo Jet Business Enterprise in collaboration with the Port Mourant Turf Club is slated for Sunday 14th August at the Port Mourant “Big Yard” venue.
The Guyana Cup is the largest local horserace event with over $30 million dollars in prizes including cash, trophies and other incentives up for grabs and will see both local and overseas horses and jockeys competing.
Already a number of horses from neighbouring Suriname have arrived to participate in the Golden Jubilee Independence Anniversary Guyana Cup Horse race meet. According to coordinator Nasrudeen (Jumbo Jet) Mohamed Jnr the event is one of the biggest horserace meet in South America.
Mohamed stated that work on upgrading of the Port Mourant Turf Club for the mammoth event is progressing satisfactorily. The VIP area is getting a general facelift while sprucing up works is being undertaken on the main pavilion area to cater for more accommodation and the comfort of the spectators.
Rehabilitation work is also ongoing on the track, paddock and stables while more stalls are being built.
Meanwhile, two more first time sponsors have seized the opportunity to be a part of the jumbo event.
Those coming on board with sizable sponsorships are Mr. Patrice Andres of Alliance Trucking Service of Georgetown and Mr. Anand Ghansham of Anand and Sons Electrical and House Wiring of Mahaicony East Coast Demerara.
Both sponsors expressed their delight at getting the opportunity to be a part of the signature event and readily agreed to get on board for the largest event for the August Holidays.
Among other sponsors on board are the Government of Guyana, Banks DIH Limited, Trophy Stall, Phaghoo General Store, Assuria Insurance Company, Goodwood Racing Service, Prem’s Grocery and Beer Garden, Fix It Vulcanizing and Tire Shop, Hand In Hand Insurance Company, Colours Boutique, BM Soat Auto Sales, Jameel Bar and Entertainment Lounge, the Muneshwar Store, the Hyper Malt Beverage Company, Rambrich Enterprise and BM Soat Auto Spares.
A number of added attractions and incentives have been made available including for the winners of the A class, the three year old and the two year old races. They will get an extra $500,000, $400,000 and $200,000 bonuses respectively.
The feature “A” and lower 1800M event with a sizable $4M winners prize in addition to the Guyana Cup Trophy from a total package of $8M.
The co-feature 1600M event for 3yrs old horses, bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies has a winner’s take of $2M and trophy.
The two year old Guyana Bred event has a first prize of $400,000 and trophy over 1100M.
The E and lower event over 1500M will see the winner taking home $800,000 and trophy over 1500M.
The event for animals’ classified G1 and lower horses is for animals from Suriname and those from Guyana. There is a race for horses classified H and lower and West Indies bred that has not started since August 30th 2015. The distance is 1200M for a winner’s money of $400,000.
Horses classified H3 and West Indies Maiden and also open To Guyana Bred trotters will have their chance to race over 1200M for a winner’s money of $400,000.
The event for J and K class horses will see animals from Suriname matching their skills against the Guyanese animals over 1100M for a take home incentive of $350,000 and trophy.
Horses from Suriname have also been tagged to feature in the L and lower event against those from Guyana over 1100M for a winning purse of $250,000 and trophy.
The top Jockey along with the runner up, the top stable and champion trainer will all be presented with trophies and other incentives compliments of the organizers and Trophy Stall.
