Kwakwani will face fourth ranked Amelia’s Ward Jets at 9pm in the feature game while the third seed, Victory Valley Royals take on fifth seed Block 22 Flames at 7pm Saturday night in the 3rd Rock Entertainment Second Annual Open Basketball Competition at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Hard Court.
The tournament will be officially launched tomorrow at 4pm at the Linden Enterprise Network (LEN) Boardroom. According to a press release, the remaining fixtures and rules will be released at the official launch of the event.
Kwakwani will join the six Linden Clubs, Retrieve Raiders, Half Mile Bulls, Victory Valley Royals, Block 22 Flames and Bankers Trust Falcons in the battle for top honours with the winner collecting a $100,000 purse.
“Details of the prizes at stake and the rules are to be made available in the tournament, which has been sanctioned by the Linden Amateur Basketball Association and all clubs must complete their affiliation and registration of 15 players for the championship,” the release said.
The release said that number one ranked Retrieve Raiders are through to the semifinals while the other teams are battling for the other semi-final places. This tournament will be staged over five days at the MSC Hard Court.
The final set of preliminary games will be held on August 13, while the semifinals are to be held on August 14 with the Finals set for August 20 all at the same venue.
