The Upper Corentyne Cricket Association has secured sponsorship from the Twins Beer Garden (Bayo) of Corriverton to sponsor and U19 cricket 50 overs cricket competition for teams in the Upper Corentyne Black Bush area for the year 2016.
The cheque for the sponsorship was handed over at a simple presentation ceremony held recently at the Hotel Riverton Suites Upper Corentyne.
Speaking at the ceremony proprietor of Twins Beer Garden Mr. Bodhnarine Ramlakhan (Bayo) stated that he is pleased to be on board with the UCCA. Over the years he has been impressed with the work of the UCCA.
He attended the 2015 final and saw the excitement it created and the benefits it brought for the youths in the Upper Corentyne area.
He mentioned that the contribution is a part of his business’ cooperate responsibility and giving back to the community from where it earns most of his benefits. He intoned that keeping youths occupied and off the streets and away from criminal activities is a top priority for him and should also be for all of Guyana. He is urging others to follow suit.
Mr. Winston Roberts Secretary of the UCCA thanked Mr. Ramlakhan for the sponsorship, which he said is much needed at this time. He gave the assurance that the UCCA will as usual organize the competition and ensure it is a well-run competition.
The competition will start as soon as weather permits and will be played on a round robin basis. There will be cash and trophies up for grabs with the winner, runner up and man of the match in the final being among the beneficiaries.
