The Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the murder of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara block maker, Nathan Persaud, continued before Magistrate Judy Latchman with a testimony from his son.
Nathan Persaud Jr. was led in giving evidence yesterday by Police Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt, in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. His testimony has been suspended until August 10.
Nathan Persaud’s estranged wife, Beverly Persaud, 46, of Lot 56 Diamond New Scheme, East Bank Demerara and Oswald Yaw, of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown are jointly charged with the murder.
The killing allegedly occurred on September 10, 2015 at Herstelling.
Beverly Persaud was arrested and interrogated by police hours after her husband was killed. She reportedly confessed to orchestrating the plot to end the life of her estranged spouse.
Yaw, the suspected hitman was arrested in the city and reportedly confessed to beating Nathan Persaud to death with a hammer. He allegedly confessed to police that the blockmaker’s wife had contracted and promised him $1.7M to do the gruesome job.
According to reports, the lifeless body of the 42-year-old block maker was found lying face down in the living room of his Lot 66 Herstelling home. His body bore a stab wound to his chest and the back of his head was bashed in.
Police recovered a hammer, two knives and a piece of rock, all of which had blood stains from the crime scene. After the father of four was killed, a strange man, now believed to be Yaw, was reportedly seen leaving his yard.
Beverly and her husband separated some time ago. The killing is said to have stemmed from a property dispute.
