There are presidential candidates contesting the November election in the US who are way above Donald Trump in decency and morality. But the world does not know them. The Green Party in the US will be fielding a presidential candidate, but if you take a poll around the world, almost one hundred percent would say they don’t know the person or ever heard about the candidate.
The reason for that is simple; politicians become household names when they excite people, the press reports on them and the numbers grow. One should never discount the possibility of a Trump victory. His poll ratings are on par with Hillary Clinton. If Trump wins, how could Trump be blamed only? There are foolish people out there in large numbers who believe the incredible, elephantine fictions of Donald Trump. There are humans that listen to Trump and accept Trump’s description of President Obama’s religion as Islam.
Make no mistake, Bharrat Jagdeo played to the gallery when he was in New York. He is a politician in charge of the opposition party in Guyana, and he will observe no ethical and civilized boundary in keeping his career alive. Mr. Jagdeo knows only one route of survival. It is to get Indian people to accept that the PNC leaders who form part of the government do not like Indian people and are discriminating against them. That mantra kept the PPP alive from 1964 to 1985. Once the PNC Government remained in office, the PPP under Dr and Mrs Jagan fed Indians a diet of persecution of Indian people by the PNC Government.
After 23 years in power, the PPP is back in the opposition, and the symphony has been brought out of the attic to perform again. It will not stop. It will not stop because the PPP needs it to survive. In creating racist incitement as he did in New York last week, Jagdeo is not strategizing to win the 2020 election only. A victory is not assured. In-depth analysis of Guyana’s demography does not support a 2020 victory for the PPP.
The racist demagoguery that Jagdeo and the PPP troglodytes are disseminating among Indians is to preserve the existence of the PPP. Make no mistake; if Jagdeo, Rohee, Luncheon, Teixeira are to survive, not win, but just to survive in 2020, they need big votes from the Indian population. Those votes will only come if you keep alive the song of demonizing African Guyanese leaders. Success will come if the listeners believe Jagdeo and his outdated cabal. You may hate Trump, you may hate Jagdeo. But they are no fools.
Trump knows Americans are moody, because complete American domination of the world is waning and they want that back. So he plays on that sentiment. Jagdeo plays on the race card, because it is the only game in town. If Trump is going to lose, Americans have to reject the fictions he peddles. If Guyana is to avoid the chasm of race hate, decent Indians have to get Jagdeo’s gallery to see that Jagdeo is a wicked, evil man manufacturing race hate to remain relevant.
How the Guyanese population deals with the coming crescendo of PPP’s race music will need careful and deep thought, but the rejection movement has to begin as early as yesterday. Do not underestimate Jagdeo. He knows there is a band of race advocates that he can count on. The list includes swamis, novelists, university lecturers, columnists etc. Jagdeo knows that he can appeal to these people. It is these people that we need to assess.
Do they believe Jagdeo? Do they believe this is a man who ought to remain un-prosecuted while he poisons the psychology of the East Indians who are foolish to listen to him? Do they believe this man should be a spokesperson for the Guyanese Indians when this man, after twelve years, did absolutely nothing for the poor East Indians of Guyana? Do they believe this man when they see the financial losses of the sugar industry?
Do they believe this man, when under his twelve-year-old reign, rural Indians were at the mercy of bandits? Aren’t some of them educated people that have access to the internet? They can Google the crime situation in Berbice when Jagdeo was president. They will see what Indians had to endure. Do they believe this man whose twelve-year domination saw rural schools in Indian areas without washroom facilities, windows and steps and he ignored them and built a Marriott Hotel with taxpayers’ money?
As an Indian, I will have more to say about Indian Guyanese and the Jagdeo race wagon.
