Two men were remanded to prison for the murder of Shawn Clarke, the gold miner whose body parts were discovered last week in Mahdia.
Shane McAlmont, 36, of 111 Miles Mahdia, Potaro and Marlon Joseph, were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where they were remanded to prison for the indictable offences.
It is alleged that between July 10 and July 22, at Salbora Road, Mahdia, Potaro, McAlmont murdered Clarke also known as ‘Short Man’ or ‘Leprechaun’. Joseph was charged with being an accessory to the crime.
Both men were unrepresented by an Attorney and were instructed to make their next court appearance on October 17 in the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court.
It was reported that police in ‘F’ Division had found several decomposing body parts suspected to be those of Clarke’s.
Clarke, 47, left his Lot ‘C’ Norton Street, Lodge home on June 15, for North Fork, Region Seven, where he had been working as a gold miner for over 20 years. His wife, Rachelle Clarke, had said that she suspected something was wrong with her husband after several calls she placed to his phone on July 10 went unanswered.
Mrs. Clarke and her daughter had stated that although no positive identification has been made, they are sure that a corpse recently found in the area is his.
