Dear Editor,
I respect Freddie and concur with most of his columns; however I must suggest to him that when he enters the arena of foreign politics, he should do his research thoroughly. Freddie’s column of Monday 07/25/16 suggest us Guyanese to “Read the Washington Post Editorial on Donald Trump”. The editorial piece blasted Trump as it has always done since new ownership.
Here is what my fellow Guyanese do not know about the Washington Post. Mr. Jeff Bezos, a billionaire and owner of the great Amazon, purchased the newspaper as another part of his collection. Bezos and Trump have an ongoing feud for a while now. He uses the paper to go after him. Trump accuses Bezos of buying the Post in 2013 in order to persuade Washington politicians to keep Amazon’s taxes low, and to avoid antitrust scrutiny. Bezos is worried that should Trump become President he would go after him for antitrust violations and a monopoly that Bezos does not want to give up.
Had Freddie done a bit of research his investigation would have revealed that the Washington Post, the only American newspaper owned by Bezos, sent twenty (20) reporters to dig up trash on Trump. Responding to my emails, the New York Times and The Los Angeles Times Newspapers stated that the Washington Post is not an influential newspaper.
