During the last week, Cevons Waste Management leveled several complaints against the bidding process and the eventual awarding of the Haags Bosch Landfill management contract.
Cevons partnered with Ivor Allen and Ground Structure United in a bid for the contract but was unsuccessful. Most recently Cevons alleged favouritism on the part of the Government in awarding the contract to Puran Bros.
According to Cevons Chief Executive Officer, Morse Archer, there was a rush to sign the contract which seemed “fishy”. Another issue cited was that Puran Bros’ estimate was 32% below the Ministry’s engineer estimate. Archer stated that it was difficult to accept that Puran Bros are delivering at 32% below the engineer’s estimate and at the same time making a profit.
In response Puran Bros addressed these issues in a statement to the press defending each issue pointed out by Cevons. Speaking to Kaieteur News via telephone, Lakenauth Puran, said that there is no reason why Cevons and its partners should make any assertions of favouritism and skullduggery in the bidding and awarding process of the Haags Bosch contract.
He added that his company had satisfied all the necessary criteria for managing the Landfill site. Puran also said that the Ministry should address the issues brought forward by the Cevons group.
Ivor Allen, a partner of Cevons, when contacted by this newspaper said that they officially lodged a complaint with the Bid Protest Committee (BPC). “I have absolute confidence that the BPC will get to the bottom of this.”
According to sources investigations have already begun.
