A first half goal from Uriah King handed DC Caesar Fox Secondary a 1-0 victory over Charity
Secondary and a place in the last eight when the Digicel Schools football tournament continued on Wednesday.
After receiving a pass from the left side of the box, King evaded two defenders before sending his shot pass an advancing Charity goalkeeper Leeland Smith to give his team the lead at Lake Mainstay ground. His strike proved to be the decider in a match which saw DC Caesar Fox dominating possession.
The pace was awesome from the onset with both teams looking positive, and DC Caesar Fox almost went ahead within the opening 10 minutes, but Ashton Ward’s goal was ruled offside.
Colin Edwards created a number of scoring chances for DC Caesar Fox Secondary but his team mates found it difficult to finish. He provided Reon McNaughton with a fair chance by floating the ball into the area from the left corner, but McNaughton headed just over the cross bar. Charity’s Deandre Thomas must have counted himself unlucky after his powerful free kick from the center of midfield rebounded from the cross bar after brushing goalkeeper
Reese Gomez hands.
Edwards continued to pose problems for his opponents and produced a breathtaking effort; after elegantly turning past two defenders he sent his shot over the bar moments before King found the back of the net in the 30th minute.
King could have doubled the lead minutes into the second half, but with only the keeper to beat, he hesitated in taking the shot and was denied by a smart piece of defending by Arnold Wells.
While Charity hardly has a shot on goal in this session, their opponents had a few averted. McNaughton, Nadir Walker, Warde and Camal George were all denied by Smith.
