A Representative of the Phaghoo General Store, Priya, presents the entity’s contribution to Rovin De Souza of the Guyana Cup organising committee.
With just under a month to go before race day the organisers are upping preparations for the 10th Annual Guyana Cup Horserace meet which is slated for Sunday August 14th at the Port Mourant (Big Yard) Turf Club, Corentyne Berbice.
The event is organized by the Jumbo Jet Business Enterprise in collaboration with the Port Mourant Turf Club. Already renovation and other preparatory works are being undertaken at the venue including the track being graded and rolled constantly to keep it in good order.
The mega event which is undoubtedly the biggest horserace event in Guyana has so far attracted prize monies which include cash, trophies and other benefits soaring past the $22M mark. The event also forms part of Guyana Jubilee Independence Anniversary celebrations.
According to Coordinator Nazrudeen “Jumbo Jet” Junior, the organisers are bent on making this event the best in its 10 years history.
Joining the slew of sponsors already on board with the organisers for the much anticipated event is the popular Phaghoo General Store situated at Bush Lot, West Coast, Berbice.
The cheque was presented at a simple ceremony at the Company’s Bush Lot Office. Mr. Phaghoo like others before is happy to be a part of the prestigious event and also relished the hype and publicity garnered from being a part of the event.
They now join the Assuria Insurance Company, Prem’s Grocery and Beer Garden of Wiredam, Bush Lot, West Coast, Berbice, Fix It Vulcanizing and Tire Shop of West Coast, Berbice, Hand In Hand Insurance Company, Colours Boutique of Georgetown, Banks DIH Limited, Trophy Stall, BM Soat Auto Sales, Jameel Bar and Entertainment Lounge, the Muneshwar Store and the Hyper Malt Beverage Company.
There are a number of top class event list for the day’s meet with the feature slated for animals classified “A” and lower over 1600M for a winning money of $4M and the Guyana Cup Trophy from a total package of $8M.
The is a co-feature event for 3yrs old horses, bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies, for a hefty $2M and trophy also over 1600M. Then there is the event for two year old West Indies Bred horses for a $1M and trophy over 1000M. The E class event has $1M and trophy for the winner over 1300M.
Other events on the day are for G3 and lower animals, H and lower horses, another race for animals classified J and K and a final one for L class horses.
A number of added attractions and incentives have been made available including for the winners of the A class, the three year old and the two year old races. They will get an extra $500,000, $400,000 and $200,000 bonuses respectively.
The jockeys riding the respective animals in those events will all ride away with an extra $50,000.
The top Jockey along with the runner up, the top stable and champion trainer will all be presented with trophies and other incentives compliments of the organizers and Trophy Stall.
