After hosting a successful clinic on Sunday at Canje/Rose Hall, the United States-based Guyana Medical Watch team conducted another outreach programme on West Bank Demerara, yesterday.
The clinic which saw over 450 residents being treated for dental problems including fluoride management for children, rashes, high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol and joint pains was held at the Patentia Secondary School.
Apart from being treated for the aforementioned, residents were counselled on the importance of correct nutrition, exercise and taking their medication on time which are essential in order to live a healthy lifestyle.
Vishnu Persaud, who resides in the area, said he is happy with the initiative and called for more such clinics in the Region. “This is a wonderful programme and the services offered are good so the people here are thankful,” he added.
He pointed out that this undertaking is well suited for the elderly. “Sometimes it is difficult for the elderly to visit the hospitals, so the fact that these doctors have reached out to them is second to none,” said Persaud.
He stated that Guyanese sometimes take health issues for granted. That’s why such programmes are important because it helps to educate the people.
The outreach programme continues today at Leonora Secondary School.
